Key People

Under the leadership of Bruce Blausen, our core team of full-time animators have medical or scientific backgrounds as well as graduate level training in medical illustration. Our programmers and graphic designers are also medically proficient with cutting-edge technical training. Our research team is lead by a medical writer with a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences.

Bruce Blausen, M.A.

Bruce Blausen, CEO of Blausen Medical Communications, founded BMC in 1991 with the intent of creating the country's largest library of 3D medical animation and graphic content. He has realized that goal. Bruce has a Masters degree in Medical Illustration from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Art degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Bruce has over 20 years of medical animation experience and has created designs for a variety of clients including: Merck, Pfizer, CNN, Pearson Education, Discovery Health, GE Medical, EBSCO and Thomson. Bruce is now focusing his efforts on creating a series of Internet Atlas products for global distribution, using BMC's vast proprietary library.

G. Hunt Neurohr, M.D. FACS

Dr. Hunt Neurohr is an American Board Certified Plastic Surgeon from Dallas, Texas where he has been in private practice since 1988. He specializes in utilizing biologic processes strategically applied to anatomical features for restorative procedures to optimize health, well-being, and appearance. He has developed surgical techniques for natural improvement of the face and eyelids, which are recognized internationally, and his work with cosmetic injectable agents keep him at the forefront of the medical aesthetic world.

In addition to his surgical practice, Hunt has been reviewing and advising Blausen Medical directly and indirectly for the past 4 years as a medical consultant. Recently, with the development of the iPhone application, Dr. Neurohr has agreed to devote more time and serve as the Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Neurohr graduated from The University of Texas and Southwestern Medical School. He completed general surgery training in Dallas before moving to Los Angeles for Plastic Surgery training at The University of Southern California, and advanced his specialty fellowship at The Connell Clinic in Santa Ana, California. He and his wife Stephanie have been married for 28 years. They have seven children together.

Val Jones, M.D.

Val Jones, M.D., is the CEO of Better Health, LLC, a network of top medical bloggers. Most recently she was the Senior Medical Director of Revolution Health, a consumer health portal with over 120 million page views per month in its network. Prior to her work with Revolution Health, Dr. Jones served as the founding editor of Clinical Nutrition & Obesity, a peer-reviewed e-section of the online Medscape Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Jones completed her bachelor's degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and her master's degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. She graduated from medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and was a regular contributor to the medical student section of The Journal of the American Medical Association. She received a scholarship to conduct research in the department of plastic surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, as well as a summer research fellowship in pediatric surgery at the University of Southern California, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health. She also completed research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in its Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Jones is a regular contributor to ABC News Channel 8 in Washington, DC, and is part of the DocTalker Family Medicine medical practice in Vienna, Virginia. Dr. Jones serves as the Patient Education Advisor for Blausen Medical.

Dawn Willis

Dawn Willis is BMC's Senior Medical Editorial Director. She brings extensive knowledge about medical content and testing to BMC, and has a rich background in the field of Information Sciences. Dawn was employed by the National Board of Medical Examiners for more than 13 years and served as the Managing Editor for the USMLE Step 3 examination. While employed with the National Board of Medical Examiners, Dawn was instrumental in developing the examination content outline as well as new testing methods.

Dawn also managed the editorial development team as the NBME phased in computerized testing. She has worked as a freelance writer and editor, and her clients include Merck, AT&T, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Rodale Press. Dawn holds a Master of Arts degree in English Literature and a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Sciences.

Shan Jaffar

Shan Jaffar is BMC's Vice President of Production. Shan holds a Master of Science degree in 3D Visualization from Texas A&M University at Dallas and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Digital Multimedia from Andrews University, which stemmed from a base of Computer Science Engineering discipline from Manipal Institute of Technology. Balanced with a creative as well as a scientific acumen, Shan provides effective leadership for both technical and creative aspects of BMC's multi-disciplinary teams.

As a detail and goal oriented professional, Shan has a proven track record of success in managing and delivering innovative and top-quality products, under tight-deadlines for clients such as CNN, Merck, Novo Nordisk etc. He has supervised and managed project development cycles and new brand marketing solutions, from concept to execution across multiple marketing channels for several pharmaceutical and biotech clients. Shan has also helped successfully train and create highly motivated, well-rounded and diverse teams at BMC.

Aimee Worden, M.S.

Aimee Worden is BMC's Project Coordinator. Aimee holds a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Chicago at Illinois, and two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The ability to understand complex scientific and medical applications, as well as recognizing clients' needs, are Aimee's areas of expertise. She has efficiently handled numerous large projects from concept to completion with outstanding results.

Aimee is responsible for developing all future Consumer Medical Atlas (CMA) topics as well as managing the Atlas translations and databasing BMC's entire CMA medical library which currently consists of over 285 medical animations and 2,000 illustrations. She effectively functions as the liaison between staff and clients and ensures that all projects meet the needs of the client as well as appropriate deadlines. Clearly, Aimee has outstanding organizational and leadership abilities and is quite capable of managing Blausen's broad range of project demands.

Gerard K. Cohen

Gerard is BMC's Senior Interactive Media Developer. He has well-rounded experience in corporate-level website design and development. Gerard has a solid understanding of how to create exceptional websites using key technologies. He has a keen eye for the aesthetic without compromising functionality and efficiency. However, knowing what works does not prevent his keeping an open mind about a client's ideas for innovation. His attention to detail, combined with a readiness to embrace new technology and ideas, adds to his expertise.
