About Norwegian Health Informatics (NHI)

Founded in 1996, Norwegian Health Informatics (NHI) has developed the Electronic Medical Handbook (EMH). The development of the handbook was financially supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Health from 1997-99. Its purposes are to 1) bridge the gap between research and clinical practice; 2) save resources --- time, money and staff; and 3) improve the quality and equality of medical care. The handbook is an independent product and developed without any support from the pharmaceutical industry. None of the owners have any conflict of interest with regard to the product and its content. The handbook is an electronic database in general medicine. The editors are primary care physicians. Approximately 200 Norwegian experts are affiliated as reviewers, the majority of them academics at Norwegian universities. Today most physicians and other health care workers in Norway are using the Electronic Medical Handbook on a daily basis.
