Houston, February 3, 2012 --- Blausen Medical Communications, developer and owner of the world's largest 3D medical animations library, will help build awareness of and support for American Heart Month by featuring three heart-related Blausen animations on the Blausen Group Facebook page during February. The animations, How the Heart Works, Congestive Heart Failure and Angioplasty, are derived from the Blausen library and show how the heart functions, what occurs during heart failure, and a specialized preventative treatment to prevent further heart problems.
Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the American Heart Month campaign began in February 2004 and has grown into a national movement as more women, men, celebrities, healthcare professionals and politicians have joined movement to promote education about heart disease. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), while heart disease and stroke kill one in every 3.7 men, one in 2.4 women lose their lives to heart disease and stroke ? making those the number one and three killers of women. By way of comparison, breast cancer kills one in 29 women.
Founder and CEO of Houston-based Blausen, Bruce Blausen, said, "Heart disease and stroke are the number one and three killers of women. These are comparatively lesser known threats to women's health, compared to breast cancer and other diseases. By including some of our relevant heart-related animations on our Blausen Group Facebook page, we hope to make more people aware and encourage them to participate in the American Heart Month Go Red For Women activities."

The Go Red For Women campaign funds research around women and heart disease and stroke, with the aim to educate women so that they can lead longer, healthier lives. Go Red For Women uses the color red and the red dress as a symbol of the ability all women have to improve their heart health and live stronger, longer lives. Those interested can sign up for the Go Red For Women program by visiting www.americanheart.org or calling 1-888-MY-HEART to receive educational information and a red dress pin.
