The sensation of pain often conveys that damage has occurred to tissue in the body. Pain signals follow a neural pathway from the point of damage to the spinal cord and up to the brain. However, in Central Sensitization Syndrome, the magnitude of the pain signals from the trauma cause changes at every point in this pathway. These changes amplify the signals even after the body has healed. The pathway continues in a feedback loop which produces feelings of persistent pain, even when the outside stimulus is considered normal.
